ll too often we get caught up in the drive for perfection before we take action.

This Super Bowl ad will show to you how to think differently about how you execute an idea and generate incredible outcomes.

Sometimes you really need to get out of your own way to be successful.

Outline: Kanye West bought a $7 million Super Bowl ad spot and in doing so totally blew his budget for production.

Not only did he create a big problem to solve, he had to think differently about how he was going to fill that spot.

Here’s what he did. It’s extraordinary.

I’ll break it down for you and show you how you can replicate this approach in your go-to-market strategies.

This ad generated $20 million in sales in a week and no doubt a lot more since.

It’s 62 words, totally unscripted and unless you go to the website, you really don’t know what you’re being sold… some shoes, maybe?

What’s really interesting here is this is not about the product or the business. No-one NEEDS another grey hoodie, pair of socks or really any of the stuff on the site.

But they connect with Kanye and are avid followers of his brand and will hand over their cash to be a part of his ideas and story.

And frankly, this kind of ad is endearing in its simplicity and honesty. It’s genius in that regard.

So what can youdo to capitalise on this concept?

Thankfully, on LinkedIn we’ve moved on from CEOs and walking around city streets filming themselves.

But this is about the power of personal brand and the right channel to market.

It’s also about community, creating a loyal following and rewarding people for being part of that community.

This means showing up regularly.

And it looks like:

  • Giving away ideas and know how
  • Showing people new ways of thinking
  • Sharing stories
  • Inspiring people
  • Building connections, trust and relationships

When this happens sometimes all you have to do is tell them what you’ve got…and what to do to get it.

So my question is, what can you do today to test this out?

My tip: do a simple text only post on LinkedIn or reach out to a key person in your network and say hello.

Do this often enough and you won’t recognise yourself in a year – in a very good way.
